Furore over Anwar billboard in Port Klang

KLANG: Umno Klang has demanded that an investigation be carried out on the installation of a billboard which bears the image of the imprisoned Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Its information chief Wan Mohamad Yusoff Wan Abdullah questioned how the Klang Municipal Council allowed a politically driven billboard to be erected in the town of Port Klang.

The billboard which carries a picture of Anwar with the words 'Bebas Rakyat, Bebas Anwar' was found along Persiaran Raja Muda Musa and could have been there for the past one month.

"I was told that the same billboard can also be found in Subang Jaya. The billboard shows that PKR and the Selangor state government is mocking the country's judiciary system which found Anwar guilty of sodomy by five judges. It should be taken down immediately," said Yusoff.

Yusoff added that he had not contacted MPK to ask why the billboard was allowed to be put up as it was pointless because the local authority was under the PKR-led government.

Yusoff said this today after lodging a report at the Klang district police headquarters on the distribution of the Selangor state government's weekly mouthpiece in a mosque in Kampung Jawa.

He said he had came upon SelangorKini's latest Feb 12-19 edition at the Dato Dagang mosque on Feb 19.

"This edition featured articles of Anwar as a political prisoner and goes against the decree of the Sultan of Selangor to not bring politics into mosques.

"I hope action will be taken by the relevant authority as clearly Selangorkini had not only insulted the decree of the Sultan of Selangor but also the court," he said.

On Monday, Subang Umno division chief Zein Isma and more than 20 Selangor Umno members lodged a report over the same billboard at the Sungai Buloh district police headquarters.

Zein said the billboards were found in Ampang Jaya, Kepong and Rawang and urged the police, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission and relevant agencies to investigate the matter.

He had questioned how the Selangor local authorities approved the billboards, adding that the Selangor government's action was unacceptable as they were misusing the people's money.
