Kuala Lumpur seizes top spot in Premier League

KUALA LUMPUR: The effort of the Kuala Lumpur team to take over the top spot from UiTM FC in the 2016 Premiere League table was successful after collecting 10 points as of last night.

“The Hawks” squad recorded a slim 3-2 victory against Sabah at the Selayang Municipal Council Stadium.

They started off aggressively by scoring in the second and fifth minutes via Zhafri Yahya and Brazilian, Casagrande.

Sabah then equalised 2-2 via a penalty kick by Marco Tulio in the 70th minute and Leopold Otong three minutes later.

Kuala Lumpur’s winning goal was netted by Helmi Remeli in the 82nd minute.

Meanwhile, UiTM FC was forced to surrender to the prowess of DRB Hicom FC after losing 1-4 at Proton City Stadium, Tanjung Malim, Perak.

Having the advantage of playing a match at home turf, DRB Hicom FC led the match in the 25th minute via Phillip Lund.

This was followed by Ivan Babic in the 38th minute who took the penalty kick after the ball struck the hand of a visiting player.

Ivan emerged as DRB Hicom FC’s hero by scoring two goals in the 43rd and 50th minute while UiTM FC obtained a consolation goal via Pavel Purishkin in the 72nd minute.

At Hang Jebat Stadium, Melaka, PKNS FC won their second match by beating Sime Darby FC, 3-1.

The PKNS FC goals were scored by Juan Manuel Cobelli (61st minute) and Gabriel Miguel Guerra (64th dan 88th minutes), while Sime Darby FC goal was slotted in by Mateo Roskam (36th minute).

At the Pasir Gudang Municipal Council Stadium, Johor, the host Johor Darul Ta’azim 11 trounced Malaysian Armed Forces 5-1 via scores by Mohd Irfan Fazail (11th minute), Paulo Rangel (19th, 13th dan 58th minute) and Mohd Hasbullah (45th minute) although ATM scored first via Venice Elphi Danny Kaya as early as the 17th minute.

Meanwhile, Perlis also obtained three full points after beating Kuantan FA 1-0 via Kayne Vincent in the 74th minute at Tuanku Syed Putra Stadium, Kangar.

Tomorrow, one more team, eyeing a chance to be at the top of the Premier League, Melaka United, would squaring off against Negeri Sembilan at the Hang Jebat Stadium in Melaka. -- Bernama
