Immigration Dept bust fake Malaysian passport syndicate

PUTRAJAYA: The Immigration Department busted a fake Malaysian passport syndicate following the arrest of two Sri Lanka nationals at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) on March 6.

Department director-general Datuk Sakib Kusmi said the two suspects were nabbed before their flight to Amsterdam via KLM Royal Dutch Airlines when they produced fake Malaysian passports.

“Upon inspection we found their original Sri Lankan passport and they were arrested under Section 15 (1) (c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for overstaying and Section 56 (1) (I) of the same act for using fake travel documents.

“They are also being investigated under Section 12 (1) (f) of the Passport Act 1966 for unlawful possession of another person’s passport.

“Further intelligence and information gathered led to the arrest at Level 5, KLIA of two more Sri Lankan nationals, who are believed to be the agents in the syndicate,” he said.

He added the two agents are also being investigated under Section 56 (1A) (c) of the Immigration Act for conspiring in the syndicate.
