Mecca crane tragedy: Final discussion on compensation payment next month, says TH

BALING: Tabung Haji (TH) top management will leave for Saudi Arabia next month to discuss the date for compensation pay out for victims who were injured and next-of-kin of those who perished in the Mecca Grand Mosque crane tragedy on Sept 11 last year.

TH chairman Datuk Abdul Azeez Abdul Rahim said this would be the final discussion to be held with the Saudi government on the matter.

“We are aware that it had taken some time as the Saudi government needs to look into all aspects as the tragedy also involved pilgrims from many other countries,” he told reporters here today.

Seven Malaysian pilgrims were killed in the crane tragedy and the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman was reported to have ordered payment of SR1 million (RM1.14 million) to be paid to each victim’s family; SR1 million to those with permanent disability; and SR500K for each of the injured.--BERNAMA
