SETIU: A 22-year-old Universiti Malaysia Terengganu student nearly drowned while bathing with friends at Lata Chakoh waterfalls, in Hulu Seladang here, today.
State Fire and Rescue Department public relation officer Rozizah Abnihajar said the victim, Mohamad Nor Farid Mohd Isa, from Segamat, Johor, was saved by a villager at the scene before the arrival of the department's rescue team.
It was learnt that the victim was bathing at the scene with several friends.
Rozizah said the Setiu station received a distress call at 3.47pm and following that a team of eight firemen in a fire engine were deployed to the scene for the rescue operation.
"However, the victim was sent to the Setiu Hospital several minutes before the team arrived at the spot," she said in Kuala Terengganu.
She said the victim is being warded at the Setiu Hospital for further treatment.
