Johor govt to continue providing study loans for Johoreans

PASIR GUDANG: The Johor government will continue to provide study loans and scholarships to students under the Johor Education Foundation (YPJ) despite the uncertainty in the global economy.

Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamed Khaled Nordin said there will not be any reduction or changes in allocations for financial schemes given to Johoreans at tertiary institutions because the allocations were tabled in this year's state budget.

"We are thankful because Johor has no plans to limit or reduce (student loans and scholarships) allocations that were tabled in the state budget.

"This includes allocations under the Johor Education Foundation (YPJ) which provides sponsorship of students," said Khaled in a press conference after opening the parent-teachers association meeting at SK Pasir Gudang 2, here today.

YPJ provides successful student applicants with loans for them to study at higher learning institutions in Malaysia and overseas.

These loans are converted to scholarships if a student's scores a high academic achievement, based on certain criteria.
