JOHOR BARU: Member of Parliament Tan Sri Shahrir Samad believes he has laid out a strong foundation in the parliamentary constituency here in order to produce a competent leader to replace him as a candidate in the next general election.
He said that in his six terms that he had served as the Johor Baru MP, he had provided guidance to young leaders to ensure that Umno and Barisan Nasional have a second echelon of capable and credible leaders.
“The constituents are able to evaluate (my performance), and the most important thing is for us to ensure continuity in the party,” said Shahrir at a community programme with Tenaga Nasional Bhd and residents of Taman Sri Stulang People’s Housing Project.
Shahrir had said on March 26 that his current term as a parliamentarian would be his last.
