688,766 foreigners granted citizenship since Independence - Home Ministry

KUALA LUMPUR: A total of 688,766 foreigners had been granted Malaysian citizenship since Independence, said the Home Ministry.

In a written reply at the Dewan Rakyat earlier, the ministry also stated that 10,828 immigrants had their citizenships revoked as of January this year.

The highest number of naturalised foreigners recorded were from China (69,904), followed by Indonesia (38,024) and India (19,301).

The ministry said this in reply to Bukit Gantang member of parliament Idris Ahmad who had asked the number of immigrants who had been granted Malaysian citizenships.

He had also asked the number of those who had their citizenships revoked.
