Sources: Adenan to meet Taib tomorrow to fix date on state assembly dissolution

BAU: Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem will seek an audience with Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud tomorrow to fix the date to dissolve the State Legislative Assembly, paving the way for the 11th state polls.

The dissolution of the state assembly will be among several agendas to be discussed during the meeting at Astana Negeri in Petra Jaya near here.

Sources told the New Straits Times that it was unlikely that the state assembly, the mandate of which expires on June 20, will be dissolved on the same day since there was no advisory issued to Barisan Nasional state assemblymen.

Adenan, said sources, is however expected to make an announcement on the proposed reduction in the assessment rates for properties, as well as the proposal to make July 22 a public holiday to commemorate the state independence from the British, after he chairs the weekly State Cabinet meeting.

Adenan, who is also state Barisan Nasional chairman, during a gathering with constituents in Tasik Biru this morning, told the crowd that he will be meeting the Head of the State over the dissolution of the state assembly soon.

"After the state assembly has been dissolved, the Speaker will then inform the Election Commission which will in turn decide on the nomination and polling day."

When met after the gathering, Adenan confirmed with reporters that he will meet Taib before chairing the state cabinet meeting.

He remained cryptic when asked to elaborate whether the date of dissolution will be discussed during the meeting.

"Maybe yes, maybe no," he said.
