Pandikar to make ruling on Rafizi's arrest

KUALA LUMPUR: Speaker Tan Sri Pandikar Amin Mulia will make a ruling on the arrest of Rafizi Ramli (PKR-Pandan), who was detained in front of the Parliament building yesterday.

"However, I will have to get more details from the relevant authorities (police) before I make a ruling. I will put into consideration the Parliament precinct and exact location of the arrest as well as the motion passed by the House under Standing Order 1(e), directing the Inspector-General of Police to provide free passage to Members of Parliament. Please be patient as I investigate the matter.

"I found out about it (arrest) through online news and websites and had asked my deputy Datuk Seri Dr Ronald Kiandee on the matter (Ronald was the Chair when the incident took place)," he said, in addressing concerns raised by several lawmakers.

IGP Tan Sri Khalid Abu Bakar yesterday confirmed that the arrest took place at about 6pm outside Parliament to facilitate a probe into wrongful dissemination of official secrets.

Rafizi, who is also PKR secretary-general, had last month revealed a document which was allegedly part of the Auditor-General’s Report, which has yet to be released. He claimed that the document was classified and that it would prove a link between 1MDB and the delays in the Armed Forces Fund Board (LTAT) gratuity payment.
