Murder accused in Kevin Morais trial requests to make police report on 'death threat' in court

KUALA LUMPUR: Towards the end of the second day of Datuk Anthony Kevin Morais' murder trial, one of the accused stood up and told the court that he received a death threat from one of the witnesses in the murder trial.

"He threatened to chop my head off. I need someone to take me to the police station to lodge a report regarding this," he said referring to a witness who testified yesterday.

The lawyer of the accused claimed that during lunch break yesterday, the witness who was standing at the public gallery showed a 'chop off head' hand gesture to the accused.

The accused was one of the seven accused in the murder of the deputy public prosecutor in September last year.

Judge Datuk Azman Abdullah adjourned the matter to 10am tomorrow.

The ninth prosecution witness, DNA analyst Nor Aidora Saedon confirmed that the remains found inside the oil drum was of Kevin Morais.

Tissue and bone samples were brought to High Court 1 courtroom and produced before the court for identification purposes by the witness.

To a question by DPP Wan Shahruddin Wan Ladin, Nor Aidora said through her findings, the probability of kinship between Richard and Kevin Morais' third brother David Ramesh Morais was close to 100 per cent.

Wan Shahruddin: How did you identify that they are siblings?

Nor Aidora: Upon comparison of DNA profiles obtained, I found that the source of the tissue specimen W9(a) and bone specimen W9(c) both labelled 'unknown' is the biological sibling to the donor of the bloodstained specimens W23 (labelled David Ramesh Morais) and W24 (labelled Richard Dilaan Morais). The probability of kinship as calculated based on the Malaysian Malay, Chinese and Indian population database is 99.9999 per cent.

Meanwhile, the gunny sack purportedly used to hold the remains of Kevin Morais was unfolded outside the court where Nor Aidora confirmed that it was used to stuff Morais' dead body.

The witness will continue to testify tomorrow.

Yesterday, the High Court heard that Kevin Morais was murdered due to his role as the prosecutor in the corruption case of an army pathologist

DPP Datuk Abdul Razak Musa in an opening statement said the prosecution will prove how the case began when the deceased was prosecuting Colonel Dr R. Kunaseegaran, 53, at the Shah Alam Sessions Court.

Morais' youngest brother Richard, 50, testified that there was an argument between his late brother and the accused two days prior to the disappearance of the DPP.

On Sept 16, 2015, Morais' body was found in a drum filled with concrete in Subang Jaya, Selangor after one of the seven suspects brought police to the location at Taman Perumahan USJ 1, Persiaran Subang Mewah.
