Maid that ran away with money and jewellery arrested

MALACCA: An Indonesian maid who worked for her employer for just a week has allegedly ran away with jewellery and cash worth RM43,000.

The maid, in her 30's was working for her employer in Taman Bukit Piatu Mutiara Melaka here was however arrested three days later by police at a house in Taman Sri Muda in Shah Alam, Selangor.

Melaka Tengah police chief Assistant Commissioner Shaikh Abdul Adzis Shaikh Abdullah said police made the arrest following a report lodged by a doctor, who was shocked with the disappearance of her maid on April 5.

"A report was lodged by the female doctor in her 40's at about 10pm at the Banda Hilir police station.

"The woman who had just returned home from work at about 9.30pm, saw her house door wide open and when she started calling out for her maid, no one replied.

"She then checked on her valuables and realised that jewellery and money of various currencies worth RM43,000 were missing.” he told reporters at a press conference at the Melaka Tengah police headquarters here, yesterday.

Shaikh Abdul Adzis said police found the jewellery and money at the premise in Shah Alam during the 12.30pm raid.

He said the Indonesian was remanded for four days until April 12 to assist with investigations.

The case is being investigated under Section 381 of the Penal Code for theft by servant of property in possession of master.
