Sultan of Perak opens state assembly

IPOH: Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Muizziddin Shah calls for a more comprehensive approach to address the deviancy spread by terror group Islamic State.

He said arrests or detainment of suspects might not be a guaranteed solution to the issue, which centred on ideology, understanding and religious interpretation.

“The ideology to uphold Islamic state through militancy is fast spreading across the globe. It has also affected the people here.

“A few Malaysians have been reportedly killed while some arrests were made.

“Factors that attract followers to follow the teachings must be identified, understood and analysed. Arrests or detention may not necessarily be a guaranteed solution to the problem,” said the ruler in his speech to open the 13th State Assembly here today.

Sultan said acts that led to harm and death of innocents including destruction of properties, murder, rape, kidnapping and bombing were not in tandem with Islamic values that promote peace.
