OCM-Adecco agreement to help Msian athletes make career transition

KUALA LUMPUR: The Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM) today signed an agreement with Adecco, a world leading provider of HR solutions, as they launched the Athlete Career Programme (ACP) in Malaysia.

The OCM-Adecco ACP will assist Malaysian athletes make the transition from sports to other careers.

The programme will focus on providing guidance and tools to help athletes successfully manage their career transition and provide job placement support through career workshops and training.

The ACP was created by the International Olympics Committee (IOC) in collaboration with Adecco in 2005. The programme itself focuses on three aspects - life skills, education and employment.

"Athletes are disciplined, competitive, determined and have the ability to adapt. These are incredible traits that are transferable into the workforce," said Alma Othman, country manager at Adecco Malaysia.

Apart from providing career workshops and training, Adecco also plans to engage companies in Malaysia to hire retiring athletes once the programme has matured.

Since the launch, 185 countries have participated in the programme with over 28,000 athletes engaged around the world.
