11 abandoned projects revived since 2010: Rusnah Kassim

IPOH: Eleven of the 16 abandoned housing projects in Perak have been revived since 2010.

State Women Development, Family, Community Welfare, Housing and Local Government Committee chairman Datuk Rusnah Kassim said two projects were still in the process of being revived.

“Three others are in the early state of being revived,” she said.

Speaking at the state assembly here today, Rusnah (BN–Behrang) said the state was working with the federal government to identify “white knights” to help revive abandoned projects.

“Low- and medium-cost abandoned projects will be revived using allocations given by the federal government,” she added.

Rusnah was replying to a question from Tan Kar Hing (PKR–Simpang Pulai) who asked the number of abandoned projects in the state between 2010 and 2015 and the developers involved.

Tan also asked what are the steps taken or to be taken by the state to revive the projects.

Rusnah said, to ensure projects are not abandoned, the state gets confirmation from the Urban Well-being, Housing and Local Government Ministry on the status of developers wanting to work with the state government.

“This is because the ministry blacklists developers who abandon projects,” she said.

Once the company is blacklisted, the developer and its board of directors will not able to apply for licences and advertising permits, added Rusnah.

“The developer will also not be able to renew advertising and sales permits,” she said, adding that the companies names are also available online at the ministry's website.
