Saudi Arabia's confirmation proves there was no wrongdoing by Najib

PUTRAJAYA: The confirmation by Saudi Arabia's foreign minister relating to the donation received by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak proves there was no wrongdoing all along, said his press secretary Datuk Seri Tengku Sariffuddin Tengku Ahmad today.

“We note the statement by Al-Jubeir that the donation to the Prime Minister was genuine and nothing was expected in return… the Attorney General has also thoroughly investigated the matter and found no wrongdoing, and Saudi Arabia considers the matter closed.‎

“This confirms what the Prime Minister had maintained all along, and what multiple lawful authorities had concluded after exhaustive investigations on the funds being a donation from Saudi Arabia. This also proves the wild allegations pushed by Dr Mahathir and his Anti-Najib Campaign for over a year have been completely false,” he said.

He added Dr Mahathir’s lies were motivated by personal interest and not for the best intentions of Malaysians.

"The attempt by the former premier was a deception to unseat a democratically-elected government, just to save the political career of his son, former Kedah Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mukhriz Mahathir," said Tengku Sariffuddin.

In the statement, Tengku Sariffuddin went on to say that the former Prime Minister Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamed should be held responsible for the damage he had inflicted on Malaysia’s reputation.

He added that Western media who allowed themselves to be used to propagate false politically-motivated allegations against the Prime Minister must apologise to the Malaysian people.

The statement comes after confirmation from the Saudi Arabia Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir that the money deposited into Najib’s bank account was a donation.

Al-Jubeir had said the donation originated from the Kingdom, and that the Middle East nation did not expect anything in return.
