Nine components listed out for proposed 1Malaysia Youth City

IPOH: The proposed 1Malaysia Youth City (1MYC) in the newly-created Muallim district will have nine main components to make it conducive for the younger generation.

State Youth, Sports and Human Resources Committee chairman Datuk Shahrul Zaman Yahya said the first component was the development of main economic activities that would create job opportunities while the second one was entrepreneur development.

"The rest are creative industry; tourism; affordable homes; skill institutions; sports and recreation; youth volunteerism and youth programmes," he said in reply to Datuk Mohd Khusairi Abdul Talib (BN-Slim) at the state assembly sitting here today.

Shahrul said the authorities have identified 16 projects to date, with six of them to be undertaken by the government while another five by the private sector.

The remaining projects, he said would be implemented under a collaboration between the public and private sectors.

He said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak himself had chaired the National Blue Ocean Strategy Summit that would ensure the success of the 1MYC project.

"Wth close monitoring by the state and federal governments, we are confident that the development of 1MYC and Muallim district could be implemented as soon as possible," he said.

He said 1MYC would be developed using an integrated plan that allow youths to enhance their skills and improve their livelihood through their job or business, while at the same time enjoy recreational activities and live in comfortable homes.

He also said the existence of Proton City had also enabled Tanjung Malim town in Muallim district to be classified as an 'Automotive City'.
