Petronas Twin Towers features in Independence Day sequel.. but it's not good news

KUALA LUMPUR: The eagerly-awaited trailer for Independence Day 2: Resurgence, caught Malaysian fans by surprise when some local flavour appeared to have been injected into it.

One of the footages from the trailer depicted what appeared to be the world-famous Petronas Twin Towers collapsing.

The towers were visible for a few seconds in the trailer for the highly-anticipated blockbuster, which stars Liam Hemsworth.

In the sequel to Independence Day, the aliens are back, this time with technology that manipulates earth's gravity, levitating major landmarks and other objects into the sky and dropping it onto the city of London.

The Petronas Twin Towers, which appears to be one of the landmarks, can be seen falling on London's Tower Bridge and into the Thames River, as Hemworth's character zooms past in a futuristic fighter jet.

Jeff Goldblum’s character, David Levinson can be heard sighing, “They like to get the landmarks,” right before.

This is not the first time the Petronas Twin Towers has been featured in Hollywood movies.

In 1999, Sean Connery and Catherine Zeta-Jones’s starred in “Entrapment” with a heist taking place at the towers.
