(Motorsports) Malaysia's Adam Khalid chases F1 dream

THE inaugural F4 Southeast Asia championship (F4SEA) will help aspiring drivers make it to Formula One.

Promising youngster Adam Khalid, who was named Rookie of the Year in the Asia Cup series last year, had a taste of it when he attended the Australian GP last month as a driver ambassador for F4SEA together with New Zealander Faine Kahia.

The duo had an insight into what went on in the pit garage during the race weekend. They met Renault Sport drivers Kevin Magnussen of Denmark and England's Jolyon Palmer.

They were also briefed on how the Renault Sport Academy develop their drivers to race in Formula One.

F4SEA will be the only FIA Formula Four series linked to Formula One when it kicks off its first 30-race season at Sepang on August 6.

The drivers, competing in F4SEA, which is powered by Renault F4R engines, stand a chance of being drafted into RSA if they impress.

Adam, 17, said: “The fact that we already have links to the Renault F1 team in the early stages is a real big thing not just for Asia but for the whole of F4.”

The series will support V8 Supercars, Asian LeMans, WTCC, Lamborghini Trofeo and Audi R8 races with six events (four circuits) in three countries.
