PNB to face bigger challenges to maintain its success, says Zahid

TAPAH: Permodalan Nasional Berhad (PNB) will face bigger challenges on how to maintain its success due to global economic uncertainties, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

However, he remained confident that PNB would be able to pull through as it had a proven track record, as well as excellent management and standard operating procedures.

"With more than 200 companies it has an equity in, including as a major shareholder, PNB proves that it has a professional management which is also trustworthy and highly capable in investment," he said when closing the Minggu Saham Amanah Malaysia (MSAM) 2016 at the Tun Ahmad Sarji Stadium, here today.

Present were Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Zambry Abd Kadir, Deputy Youth and Sports Minister and Tapah member of parliament Datuk M. Saravanan, PNB chairman Tun Ahmad Sarji Abdul Hamid and PNB president and group chief executive Tan Sri Hamad Kama Piah Che Othman.

Zahid also reminded the public not to forget the sacrifices and struggles of PNB pioneers since it was established 38 years ago.

Among them, he said was PNB's first chief executive officer Tan Sri Mohd Desa Pachi who had worked hard to encourage the Bumiputera to invest in various unit trusts under PNB.

Zahid said both Desa and PNB have a special place in his heart as it was the former who had recruited him to join the agency.
