Sarawak's autonomy over immigration is like a shield to protect the state: Abang Johari

KUCHING: Sarawak's autonomy over immigration powers is like a shield, to protect the peace and harmony of the state and the interest of the people.

PBB Deputy President Datuk Abang Johari Openg said it should be used when there is a threat.

"We are just exercising our rights. It (autonomy) is like a shield to protect us (our interest) in the state. If we don't even know how to use it when people are coming to attack us, it shows that we are stupid," he said.

He was commenting on PKR deputy president Azmin Ali's harsh remark against Sarawak chief minister Adenan Satem.

Abang Johari said he was stunned with the words that came out from the leader's mouth.

"I thought he is an educated person? How could he say that? He should know the laws and rights of Sarawakians," he said.

He added that if Azmin did not want to make an appeal to extend his stay in the state, then he should leave on time.
