No Upko party election this year

KOTA KINABALU: United Pasokmomogun Kadazandusun Murut Organisation (Upko) will not hold its party election this year, said its secretary-general Datuk Donald Mojuntin.

This follows the decision by its Supreme Council to postpone the Triennial General Meeting (TGM) scheduled for October.

"The decision was made during Upko's Supreme Council meeting chaired by acting President Datuk Seri Madius Tangau yesterday at the party headquarters in Donggongon, Penampang.

"The postponement was in accordance with the party's Constitution.

"The reason is to ensure that Upko's preparation to face the 14th General Election goes on smoothly and unhindered," Donald said in a statement here.

He said all Upko divisions have activated their respective election "war rooms" and are in the process of gathering and updating relevant datas in each parliamentary and state constituency.

"Upko leaders have been going to the grassroots consistently. The effectiveness of this can be seen from the increasing number of the party's membership," he added.
