Kelantan police beef up border security as Sg Golok water level drops [VIDEO]

KOTA BARU: Kelantan police have directed all agencies along the Kelantan/Thai border to beef up operations to prevent smuggling activities following the drop in the water level at Sungai Golok.

Its chief Datuk Mazlan Lazim said increased checks must be carried out to ensure smugglers do not take advantage of the shallow river to smuggle goods along the border.

"I have told the agencies involved to keep a look out and put a stop to these activities,” he told reporters here today.

In another development, Mazlan said police have arrested five locals believed to be involved in a series of robberies in the state.

He said the five, aged between 19 and 64, were detained on April 20 and have been remanded for further investigations.

Police also seized a pistol from them.
