Chaos as car plunges into massive 40-foot sewage hole in PJ

PETALING JAYA: A senior citizen and his maid cheated death when their car skidded down a large, 40-foot deep sewage hole at Jalan 17/14 Seksyen 17, here today.

The two were traveling in their Toyota Vios in the two lane road at 2pm when the incident happened.

The driver, identified as Yong Chee Seng @ Yong Chi Seng, 86, was said to have attempted to avoid another car from the left and was believed to have lost control of his car before crashing past the safety barriers and tumbling straight into the uncovered sewage hole.

Selangor Fire and Rescue Department assistant director (operations) Mohd Sani Harul said the department was alerted of the incident at 2.07pm.

"Six firemen from Damansara fire station were deployed to the scene to assist in bringing up the car and rescuing the victims," he said.

The victims were later pulled up through a winch before they were rushed to the University Malaya Medical Centre.

It was learnt that both victims were unconscious.

The car was later brought out of the hole via a crane.

Checks at the scene showed that contractors had reinstalled the security barriers and two personnel were placed at the area to man the traffic.
