JOHOR BARU: The Johor police contingent today welcomed its new deputy police chief Datuk Mohd Zakaria Ahmad, who takes over from Datuk Aishah Mohammad who is retiring.
Zakaria's appointment was marked by a handing-over ceremony at the state police headquarters here.
Johor police chief Datuk Wan Ahmad Najmuddin Mohd paid tribute to his retiring deputy and said she had contributed immensely towards the force.
"Aishah has served the police force since May 18, 1975 and will retire on May 4 after 41 years. She has contributed greatly, shown effective leadership and excellent efforts in accomplishing tasks given to her. She also played a huge role in creating bonds and working with many in the government and private sectors.
"Some of her many achievements in Johor includes strengthening the role of police in society through Community Policing, empowering the Women Police Management Development Committee ( JPPPW ) and inspiring and realising the police's Citizen Awards."
Meanwhile, Zakaria, who was the former Penang criminal investigation department chief, said the majority of his 37 years in the force were spent in the criminal investigation department.
"It is a great honour to be here today, I am grateful for the opportunity given and will work hard to sustain the peace and harmony in society, as well as to combat and eradicate crime in Johor.
"I will also work hard to maintain the good work left behind by Aishah," Zakaria said.
