Three loan sharks arrested for kidnapping, extortion

JOHOR BARU: Police have arrested three men, believed to be loan sharks, after they allegedly kidnapped a 32-year-old man at a petrol station here on Wednesday at 2pm.

Johor Baru South police chief Assistant Commissioner Sulaiman Salleh said the three, aged 27, 33 and 52, had shoved the victim into their car while the latter and his brother were at the petrol station.

Sulaiman said the victim's brother had agreed to meet the three men at the petrol station to settle a RM3,000 loan taken by the victim.

"However, the three men demanded for RM7,000 instead. They then shoved the victim into their car and drove away," he said.

"The men later rang the brother and demanded RM10,000," he said.

Sulaiman said the victim used to work in a transportation company, which recently closed down.

After receiving a report lodged by the victim's brother, Sulaiman said police immediately tracked down the victim to a house in Johor Baru.

“We raided the house and rescued the victim at 8pm.

"While in captivity, the victim was beaten up. He sustained light injuries.

"Two men who were in the house during the raid were arrested. Upon interrogation, police found a third suspect at 9.15pm the same day,” he said.

The case is being investigated under Section 363 and 385 for kidnapping and extortion, respectively.
