(LATEST) Sarawak election: BN wins two-third majority

KUCHING: Barisan Nasional has surpassed the 55-seat benchmark to attain a two-third majority in the 11th Sarawak Election.

The Election Commission announced that BN has won 63 of the 82 state seats in Sarawak.

All signs are indicating a landslide victory is on the cards for BN, with results from others seats still coming in.

8.30pm: Unofficial results indicated that BN Lo Khere Chiang won Batu Kitang in the five-corner-fight which saw DAP and PKR fighting against each other's.

8.22pm: Unofficial results indicated that DAP lost two Chinese majority seats to BN. "Yes, we lost in Meradong. We lose in Iban areas, plus some Chinese votes back to BN," DAP former assemblywoman Ting Tze Fui posted on her Facebook. BN candidate Ding Kuong Hiing from SUPPgarnered 6,379 votes against Ting's 5,264 votes, based on unofficial results.

8.20pm: Unofficial results indicated that BN is leading in four DAP's seats, namely Dudong, Meradong, Piasau and Batu Kawah.

8.15pm : Unofficial results indicated three PKR incumbents retained their respective seats, in Batu Kitang (See Chee How), Ba'kelalan (Baru Bian) and Krian (Ali Biju).

4.15pm 52 percent of the 1,113,522 registered voters had turned up to cast their ballots as at 4pm, says Election Commission.

3.05pm: Election Commission has recorded a 50 percent voter turnout as of 3pm. Polling centres will be closed at 5pm.

3pm: Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (Unimas) political analyst Associate Professor Dr Jeneri Amir said low voter turnout trend may be due to fewer outstation voters returning home to vote.

2.40pm : The bad weather setting in that has forced the PM and DPM to abandon their plans to fly out to Lingga where the where the SAR operation is going full force may put a damper on the voting trend as the clock ticks. They have about 2 hours left to put in their votes.

1pm: 39 percent of 1, 113, 522 registered voters have cast their ballots as of 1pm, says Election Commission.

12.54pm: Sarawak PKR chief Baru Bian says turnout at the polls today has been low so far, and urges Sarawakians to come out in numbers.

“Our observers have reported low overall turnout of 35 percent as at noon. I urge all registered voters to come out to exercise your democratic rights to choose your representative in the state assembly.

“I would also like to remind officers of the EC to carry out their duties impartially and provide fair treatment for workers of all parties.

12.30pm: 35 percent of 1,113,522 registered voters have turned up to cast their votes as of 12pm, says Election Commission.

11am: The Barisan Nasional expects a steady flow of voters turning up to cast their votes in polling stations in most constituencies in the north central region. said State BN Secretary General Datuk Dr Stephen Rundi Utom.

10.40am: Yang di-Pertua Negeri Sarawak Tun Abdul Taib Mahmud arrives at Datu Merpati Jepang, Kuching to cast his vote. He was accompanied by wife Toh Puan Raghad Kurdi Taib at the school, which is one of the polling stations for the Satok constituency.

10am: Election Commission says as at 9am a total of 11 percent of 1,113,522 voters statewide have cast their ballots.

9.20am : Batu Kitang PKR candidate Voon Shiak Ni arrives SK Ong Tiang Swee to cast her vote for the Batu Lintang constituency where the party state deputy chief See Chee How is seeking reelection for a second term in office.
