DAP concedes Adenan was huge factor in vote swing

KUCHING: Sarawak DAP cannot deny that the 'Adenan factor' was the main reason the Opposition party lost five seats to the Barisan Nasional.

State DAP chairman Chong Chieng Jen said Chief Minister Tan Sri Adenan Satem or 'Team Adenan' had regained support for BN, causing the vote swing in the 11th Sarawak election.

The lack of prospect in changing the government, hence, resulted in the low turnout of voters and affected the party as well, he said.

He said BN's massive machinery from state and Federal support were among the other reasons.

Chong claimed that BN had used 'dirty tactics' to smear the image of DAP candidates on social media.

"We are disappointed and it's time to reflect on how to do better. We are not giving up but will come back stronger," he said.

However, when asked if the infighting between PKR and DAP had affected them, Chong refused to further comment.

"We will look into the matters again," he said.

Meanwhile, DAP supremo Lim Kit Siang who was present at the press conference, also congratulated Adenan on his landslide victory.

"Although he won big, he shouldn't feel on top of the world as it's not going to be smooth sailing after this," he said.

Lim said the chief minister now needs to demonstrate his so-called 'Adenan's Team' and 'Adenan's way' to the people.
