KUALA LUMPUR: Umno Supreme Council member Datuk Seri Azalina Othman Said believes that the loyalty and sacrifice of party members are the main factors behind Umno remaining as the strongest party in the country.
She said in addition to the top leadership’s wisdom in steering the party, the loyalty of members was the benchmark of the success of the party thus far.
“However, I am a little disappointed that certain people among the leaders, members and supporters of Umno are trying to undermine the strength of the party.
“They are not only criticising through the media, but also making moves to topple the current leadership, and are even willing to meet with opposition to fulfill their personal interests,” she said in a statement in conjunction with Umno’s 70th anniversary, today.
Azalina, who is also Minister in the Prime Minister’s Department, requested all parties to understand, that every decision made by the top leadership was for the continuity and smooth running of the work that had been planned by the party, to meet its agenda for the people’s wellbeing.
Although the contributions of the previous leaderships would never be forgotten, Azalina believed it was important to give space to the current leadership to lead Umno in its own mould.
She urged Umno leaders at all levels to carry out their respective roles, particularly in dealing with slander on social media.
“Even after the various allegations that were made against Umno, especially (party) president Datuk Seri Najib Razak, everything was handled well. As leaders and party members, we have to convince people that Umno is the best choice and the most relevant for today’s generation, as well as the next,” she said. --BERNAMA
