Unregistered cosmetic products seized at Padang Besar trading arcade

PADANG BESAR: Cheap prices and quick results are among the appeals that lure many consumers including tourists to buy cosmetic products sold at the Padang Besar Trading Arcade.

However, not all of the products are safe to be used as some are not registered under the Health Ministry and contain harmful ingredients.

A number of products have been seized in the operations conducted by the State Health Department at the trading arcade and today, another48 cosmetic products of various brands were confiscated during an integrated ops.

Its director Dr Zaini Hussin said it was believed that the products confiscated were brought in from the neighbouring country.

“True, some cosmetic products may have quick visible results but theymay also lead to long-term adverse side effects.

“Tests show that some of the unregistered products confiscated inprevious operations contain harmful ingredients, such as mercury,” he told pressmen in a press conference at the arcade.

The three-hour integrated operation also saw 14 unregistered medicines of different types worth RM1,000 and 45.5kg food items with an estimated value of RM800 seized.

Dr Zaini said the food items were seized as they did not meet the requirements set by the ministry under Food Regulations 1985 such as labeling on the goods package.
