KEMAMAN: A 19-year-old housewife was molested while pushing her baby in a stroller near a mosque in Chukai town on Tuesday.
District police chief Superintendent Mohd Said Ibrahim said a 28-year old suspect from Kampung Pengkalan Cica, Bukit Kuang here was detained by villagers near the scene soon after the incident took place at 12.30am.
Mohd Said said the suspect was taken to the Chukai police station and is being investigated under Section 354 of the Penal Code.
"The victim, who was pushing a stroller carrying her two-month-old baby was walking when the suspect approached them," he said.
"She stopped at a mosque nearby, and the suspect approached her and asked her several questions," he said, adding that the suspect also took out her son from the stroller.
A commotion broke out between the victim and the suspect, after the victim tried to take away her son from the suspect.
He suddenly grabbed the victim's body before molesting her at the scene.
"She shouted for help and tried to escape the suspect's hug and kisses," he said, adding that the suspect escaped the scene when several villagers came to her aid.
The suspect was nabbed about 300-metres away from the scene.
