Perak earmarks new industrial park for international companies

PARIT BUNTAR: The state government has identified a 16-hectare plot of land here that could be turned into a new industrial park for bigger local and international companies.

State Industry, Investment and Corridor Development Committee chairman Datuk Mohd Zahir Abdul Khalid said the new industrial park was strategically located to attract foreign investors from a neighbouring state who wish to expand or relocate their facilities.

"Many companies from Penang have expressed their interest to relocate here due to the lower cost of doing business.

"The existing Kerian Industrial Area may not be suitable as it is built mainly to cater for the medium-sized industry," he said during a briefing for the media here today.

Present was Menteri Besar Incorporated (MB Inc) chief executive officer Datuk Aminudin Hashim.

Zahir said various agencies such as the Northern Corridor Implementation Authority and Perak Investment Management Centre would help promote both industrial areas here, which has various facilities and infrastructure including gas supply.

At the same time, he said the industrial areas are near to the major seaport and international airport in Penang.

Meanwhile, Aminudin said MB Inc would focus on sand dredging in Kerian district as it had helped increase the state government's earning apart from deepening the main rivers here.

"When we took over the responsibility for sand dredging in Perak in 2014, we have also helped the state government reduce sand theft cases," he said.

He said MB Inc helped add another RM12 million revenue from sand last year and the amount was expected to increase to RM20 million this year.
