Four illegal foreign workers detained in Sungai Petani

SUNGAI PETANI: Four illegal foreign workers were detained by the Kedah Immigration Department under "Ops Ikrar" here on Sunday night.

An enforcement team led by Immigration deputy enforcement officer Phon Ai Liap with 15 personnel made the arrest after inspecting business premises in Lagenda Heights and Taman Mutiara Indah here.

Kedah Immigration Department Enforcement Division chief Mohd Shahrir Khalil said the operation was carried out between 10pm and midnight on Sunday.

He said in the first operation at Lagenda Heights, the team checked four Vietnamese women and found two of them had no valid travel documents.

Shahrir said in the second inspection in Taman Mutiara Indah, two Thai women aged between 35 and 38 were detained for misusing their social visit passes.

"The department is also monitoring the business owner who hired foreign workers to work at their premises with no valid documents," he said in a statement.

Shahrir said all the detainees are being held at the state Immigration office in Alor Star for further investigation.
