Storm wreaks havoc in Besut

BESUT: A storm slammed into the district here this evening, uprooting several trees in Kampung Bukit Tanah, Tembila.

It is learnt that the storm wreaked havoc in the area, peaking at about 7.20pm before it eased down at 8pm.

The kitchen of a wooden house was damaged when a 15-metre tall coconut tree fell and hit it.

Besut Fire and Rescue Services Station operations officer Faizul Abdul Wahab said the station received a call at 7.40pm and six men in a fire engine rushed to the scene 15 minutes later.

"No one was in the kitchen when the tree fell. We used a chainsaw to cut the tree into several portions for easier removal," he said.

Faizul said all six people in the house were in the living room when the tree fell.
