TAIPING: Strong spiritual and inner strength must be inculcated within the younger generation in schools in order to create a strong nation.
Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah said this strength would also help protect the people from lust and greed.
"Spiritual and inner strength will prevent people from violating the principles of humanity, breaking the law and do things that are against their religion.
"The country will produce 'robotic' citizens who only work in a mechanical way if we fail to instill both fundamentals in schools," he said when launching the state-level Teachers Day celebrations, here today.
Also present was his consort Raja Permaisuri Perak Tuanku Zara Salim.
Sultan Nazrin said teachers had been entrusted with the responsibility to educate and instill positive values among students since their formative age.
"Not all of them (students) will end up as a president, prime minister, chief justice or vice-chancellor.
"However, they can be moulded to become an asset for the country and patriotic citizens," he said.
