KUALA LUMPUR: A salesman ended up in jail today over the rape of a teenaged schoolgirl whom he got to know through Facebook four years ago.
Khoo Kean Giap was ordered to serve an eight-year-jail term beginning today when the High Court dismissed his appeal against his conviction and sentence for raping the then 13-year-old girl in Oct 2012.
On Sept 7 last year, the Sessions Court found him guilty of raping her in a room at his elder sister's apartment unit at Desa Petaling, here.
The lower court had handed down a 12-year jail term and two rotan
strokes.
However Khoo, 23, was allowed to stay execution of the sentence pending disposal of his appeal at the High Court.
However the High Court today, which upheld Khoo's conviction and two whippings but reduced the jail term from 12 years to eight, denied his bid to temporarily stay execution of the custodial term pending his appeal to the Court of Appeal.
