Immigration traitors must face brunt of the law

I REFER to the report “15 officers sacked over myIMMs sabotage” (NST, June 1). Corruption has become widespread, and our Immigration officers have been cooperating with human trafficking syndicates to hack into the Malaysian Immigration System (myIMMs).

It is believed that at least 100 Immigration officers have been involved since 2010, putting our country’s security at risk.

These traitors, who were stationed at our country’s entry points, are believed to have made more than RM1 billion through illegal activities.

Now, the authorities have sacked 15, suspended 14, frozen the salary increments of eight and transferred 63, and are investigating 20.

This is a repeat of the system being hacked in 2010, 2012, 2013 and 2014, with officers who lack integrity abusing the power vested in them.

An in-depth investigation into this national fiasco, leaving no stone unturned, will unearth more valuable information on the illegal entry of human traffickers and terrorists, who pose a threat to national security.

The government must carry out a thorough vetting of vendors before contracts are awarded to upgrade myIMMs, and only well-trained Immigration officers with high integrity should be assigned to man the system.

The traitors must face the brunt of the law and have their ill-gotten fortune confiscated.

A strong message must be sent out that such illegal activities warrant harsh punishment.
