Stop denying that klia2 is a low-cost hub, says Tony Fernandes

KUALA LUMPUR: Asia’s largest low-cost carrier, AirAsia has launched a campaign to recognise and rename klia2 to Low-cost Carrier Terminal 2 (LCCT2) to reinforce Kuala Lumpur’s position as the leading low-cost gateway to Asia and beyond.

The budget carrier’s group chief executive officer (CEO), Tan Sri Tony Fernandes urged Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd (MAHB) to stop denying the fact that klia2 is a low-cost hub.

“To me, klia2 doesn’t mean anything. LCCT2, on the other hand, is synonymous with low-cost. It’s a brand we built up together with Malaysia Airports Holdings Bhd and it shouldn’t go to waste.. As we grow towards becoming the Dubai of Asia, we want the world to know that the best value fares are here in Malaysia,” Fernandes said in a statement today.

klia2, which is fully built, owned and operated by MAHB, started operations on May 2, 2014.

AirAsia remains as the only airline that occupies 97 per cent of operations at the airport with an average of 37,000 guests daily.
