Consortium Zenith confirms lawsuit against PCM over Penang mega-projects issue

PETALING JAYA: Consortium Zenith chairman Datuk Zarul Ahmad Mohd Zulkifli today confirmed that he has filed legal action against Parti Cinta Malaysia vice president Datuk Huan Cheng Guan for making defamatory statements regarding the Penang Major Road and Tunnel (PMRT) project.

Among Huan's statements, which had been published in newspapers and online news portals, included that Consortium Zenith had breached the gazetted scale of fees for consultancy rates when conducting the feasibility study and detailed design for the project, and for making unwarranted profits.

"Huan's statements have critically jeopardised the project and our reputation.

"It also directly impacted the ongoing and future negotiations with current and future potential investors," Zarul told a press conference at the St. Giles The Gardens Hotel.

He reiterated that Consortium Zenith won the bid for the project through a proper tender process.

"We provided the Penang state with a viable fee structure and an experienced partner for the project," Zarul said.

He also said that the company will be going on a roadshow throughout Penang to brief the communities on the long term benefits of the project and to clarify their concerns.
