Pas Kuala Kangsar candidate: I'd vote for Hadi's Bill in Parliament

KUALA KANGSAR: Pas candidate Dr Najihatussalehah Ahmad said she will vote for the amendment of Act 355 at the Dewan Rakyat if she is elected as the new Kuala Kangsar member of parliament.

In a press conference today, she claimed that her support was to fulfil the wish of some 83 per cent of Malay voters in the constituency who wanted the amendment to be implemented.

"As a Muslim, I am obliged to support the effort to strengthen the implementation of Syariah law which is in line with the Quran and Sunnah.

"The proposal of the party president (Datuk Seri Abdul Hadi Awang) to amend Act 355 via the Private Member’s Bill is one step towards extending the power of the Syariah court," she said.

Dr Najihatussalehah said a survey done by the Strategic Research Centre, an independent research firm, before the nomination revealed that 83.7 per cent of Malay respondent here supported the amendment.

Hadi has tabled a Private Member’s Bill in Parliament last month to expand the range of punishments that can be imposed on Syariah courts.
