Guan Eng: Weakness in Pakatan led to our defeat in by-elections

GEORGE TOWN: Weaknesses in Pakatan Harapan resulted in the opposition’s defeat in the recent Sungai Besar and Kuala Kangsar parliamentary seat by-elections, said DAP secretary-general Lim Guan Eng.

He admitted that Barisan Nasional (BN) had its own strengths, especially its election machinery.

“We accept the by-election results with an open heart as this is the people’s decision and we respect it,” Lim said at a press conference, here, today.

However, he believed that Pakatan Harapan was not demoralised with the results and would rise again in facing the next general election.

Lim said DAP was ready to face the 14th general election (GE14) if Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak decided to hold a snap election.

On Parti Keadilan Rakyat (PKR) deputy president Datuk Seri Mohamed Azmin Ali’s suggestion for all the opposition parties to meet and discuss the strategies in facing GE14, Lim said he would discuss the matter with him.

BN candidate Datin Mastura Mohd Yazid won in the Kuala Kangsar by-election with a 6,969-vote majority, while its other candidate Budiman Mohd Zohdi won in Sungai Besar with a 9,191-vote majority.--BERNAMA
