15 people, not 19 affected by food poisoning at Ramadan bazaar, says Terengganu Health Dept

KUALA TERENGGANU: The Terengganu Health Department today refuted news reports which claimed that up to 19 people suffered food poisoning on Wednesday after consuming items bought at a Ramadan bazaar in Paka.

The department said the incident happened a week ago on June 14.

Department director Dr Mohammad Omar said that in the incident, four people were warded at the Dungun Hospital after complaining of diarrhoea and vomiting.

Eleven people received outpatient treatment at the same hospital.

“The four victims who warded were discharged from the hospital on June 16," he said.

He said the department had taken food samples from the stall concerned for analysis, and is awaiting the lab results.

All patients involved had consumed a pudding dish, currently suspected as the main cause of the illness.

"As far as we know, there were no recent cases after that," he added.

Yesterday, it was reported that 19 people suffered from diarrhoea and vomiting after eating food a Ramadan bazaar stall in Paka, on Wednesday.

The reports claimed that five people were admitted to Dungun Hospital, and another at the Kuantan Medical Centre.
