Berita Harian journalist laid to rest in Rembau

KUALA LUMPUR: Berita Harian journalist Mohd Hamizar Abd Hamid, who died in a road accident last night, was laid to rest in his hometown in Rembau this afternoon.

Hamizar, 43, better known as Mijo among colleagues and friends, was buried at the Chengkau Ulu cemetery about 2.45pm.

The funeral was attended by over 200 people including his family, friends and colleagues in the media fraternity.

Among those present were BH executive editor (News/Features/Digital) Ahmad Zaini Kamaruzzaman, BH production executive editor Rosli Safar, and Harian Metro group editor Datuk Mustapa Omar.

Earlier, Hamizar's remains were brought from the Putrajaya Hospital to his mother's house in Kampung Baru Chengkau Ulu where the solat jenazah (funeral prayer) was conducted.

Hamizar succumbed to his injuries at the hospital about 8.10pm yesterday after he was rushed there following a motorcycle crash in Persiaran Barat, Putrajaya about 7pm.

It is learnt that he suffered broken ribs and shoulder, and other internal injuries.

The veteran journalist was on his way home from work to break fast with his family when the incident occurred.

He leaves behind his wife Norsuriaty Awang Hassim, 43, and their two sons Aliff Haikal, 15, and Iqbal Hamdi, 12.

Meanwhile, Hamizar's mother Minah A Ghani, 72, said Mijo - the third of four siblings, was a very responsible family member.

She said Mijo had been paying even more attention to her after her husband's death in an accident in February.

"He was always a good and cheerful son.

"Ever since he was a boy, he was a person who liked to make friends and helped others, that's why until today, he has so many friends," she said.

Minah said she last met Hamizar on the second day of Ramadan when he and his family returned to Rembau to break fast with her.
