Plans to sell fireworks for Raya foiled

KUALA SELANGOR: Attempts to hide 41 boxes of firecrackers meant for sale near Hari Raya Aidilfitri failed for a 36-year-old man when he was busted by the police.

The man had to surrender the illegal items, believed to have been smuggled in from a neighbouring country, when his house in Jeram was raided by police on Monday.

It was believed that the suspect had concealed the firecrackers in his house while waiting for a customer to pick it up before Hari Raya.

Kuala Selangor police chief Superintendent Ruslan Abdullah said the firecrackers, worth around RM60,000, were seized by the crime prevention and community safety division in the 7pm operation.

The suspect was also been arrested for further investigation under Section 8 of the Explosives Act 1957.

"The investigation paper have been referred to the state deputy public prosecutor. The suspect may be charged in court soon," said Ruslan.

If found guilty, the suspect risks a jail term not more than seven years or a fine not more RM10,000 or both.
