'Kicking man' terrorising pedestrians near Bank Negara building finally arrested

KUALA LUMPUR: A 33-year old man who had a habit of kicking pedestrians from behind, near the Bank Negara Malaysia building was arrested yesterday.

City police chief Datuk Amar Singh said Dang Wangi police caught the suspect at Jinjang at 11.30pm.

A few days ago, a female Bank Negara employee was crossing the bridge between the Bank Negara building and the Sogo department store when the suspect sprinted from behind and landed a kick on her back.

The woman sprawled onto the floor and injured her cheek. She sought treatment at Pantai Hospital, Bukit Pantai. An auxiliary policeman from Bank Negara had lodged a police report on the incident.

Amar said the suspect in the past had tried to break in into the Bank Negara building with a parang in hand. He had been charged in court for the offence.

Police believe the suspect, suspected to be mentally ill, had injured other pedestrians by kicking them from behind but no one had lodged a report to date.
