AirAsia leasing unit expects 30 A321 neos

KUALA LUMPUR: AirAsia Bhd’s aircraft leasing unit, Asia Aviation Capital Limited (AAC) has added a new aircraft model in its portfolio following its parent company’s recent order of 100 new Airbus A321 neo (new engine option).

The company’s principal officer and director Rozman Omar said 30 per cent of the order is expected to be allocated to AAC.

“We welcome the purchase of the A321 neo by AirAsia. The aircraft promises incredible economics and will help grow the leasing company as we continue to build our lease portfolio to AirAsia affiliates and third party airlines,” he said in a statement yesterday.

Rozman added that a chief executive officer (CEO) and a chief financial officer (CFO) has been identified to helm AAC into the growth phase.

AAC currently owns or finances a fleet of more than 55 Airbus A320 commercial aircraft, primarily leased to AirAsia affiliates outside Malaysia.

The unit is also expected to receive additional 100 A320 aircraft, which will bring its total fleet of A320 to 155.

AirAsia made the order of the new A321 neo, valued at US$12.6 billion based on list prices, at the Farnborough International Airshow 2016 last week.
