PKR yet to understand objective of Penang snap polls, says Penang deputy CM

GEORGE TOWN: PKR has yet to understand the purpose and objective for snap polls in Penang, said Penang Deputy Chief Minister I Datuk Mohd Rashid Hasnon

Rashid said PKR had asked for more time to carry out discussions with its allies over the matter.

"The meeting last night with PKR leaders was inconclusive as PKR has yet to understand the purpose and objective of holding a snap election.

"We have asked for more time to carry out discussions with Pakatan Harapan component parties.

"We did not reject the snap polls but just need more justification," he told reporters here today.

Rashid was asked to comment on the possible snap polls in Penang. It was reported that state leaders were discussing the possibility of holding snap polls to gauge public sentiment following Chief Minister Lim Guan Eng's two corruption charges.

Late last month, Lim was charged with abuse of power and corruption over the alleged approval of a rezoning application by Magnificent Emblem Sdn Bhd to convert agricultural land to residential use; and over the purchase of his RM2.8 million house from Phang at below the market value of RM4.27 million.

Asked on the state PKR's stand, Rashid said the state PKR's stand was the same as that of the national PKR.
