#BeStrongPM trending on Facebook, Twitter

KUALA LUMPUR: Social media was abuzz with statements of support for Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak, with the hashtag #BeStrongPM trending both on Facebook and Twitter, today.

This came about following the recent announcement by the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) on its civil complaint to seize assets purportedly linked to 1Malaysia Development Bhd (1MDB).

The outpouring of support was seen in tweets with the words, "Kekal Najib, Belia Bangkit, Parlimen Pekan, Anti-DAP club ,#BeStrongPM,” being widely circulated.

Minister in Prime Minister’s Department, Datuk Seri Azalina Othman, tweeted “#bestrongPM @NajibRazak in facing the slander and accusation,” and followed it with #Kamibersama, which translates to “we are united.”

An image with the words, “#bestrongPM, from us, Malaysians” was also widely shared.

Twitter user, @DGabriellaL tweeted, “Hang in there and fight them. @NajibRazak #BeStrongPM,” while Facebook user Fara Da Nia posted “Be strong My PM we always stand with you #‎respectMYPM #‎BestrongPM #‎daretofightback.”

Yesterday, Gerakan Youth Chief Tan Keng Liang also took to Twitter to defend the prime minister.

“For those who think the US is always right, read this. Look at facts & evidence before blindly accepting whatever they claim,” he said, with a link to a news report titled, “US air strike in Syria kills nearly 60 civilians mistaken for ISIL fighters.’”

Najib, was not mentioned in the civil complaint by the DOJ, but has assured full cooperation by the Malaysian government.

He had asked everyone to respect the due process before passing judgment on the matter.
