(Football) JDT stretch lead after beating Sarawak 2-1

KUALA LUMPUR: Johor Darul Ta'zim stretched their lead at the top of the standings to five points after beating Sarawak 2-1 in Kuching in the sole Super League match to take place today.

With the rest of the games to be held on Saturday, Darul Ta'zim ensured that they cannot be overtaken after coming away with victory at the State Stadium.

Marcos Antonio Santos and Azinee Taib scored in the 22nd and 70th minutes, respectively, to put the visitors 2-0 ahead before Syahrul Azwari Ibrahim halved the deficit with 12 minutes remaining for his first goal of the season.

Sarawak almost snatched a point at the end but Tommy Mawat Bada saw his effort hit the crossbar to allow Darul Ta'zim to breathe a sigh of relief.

Felda United can reduce the gap at the top back to two points with a win over Police in Malacca on Saturday.

Meanwhile, Ilija Spasojevic scored a league-leading 16th goal as Malacca downed DRB-Hicom 2-0 at the Hang Jebat Stadium to retain top spot in the Premier League.

Malacca lead by two points from Johor, who defeated Negri Sembilan 3-1 at Paroi while PKNS are third, four points behind the leaders after beating Sabah 3-1 in Kota Kinabalu.

Kuala Lumpur edged Perlis 4-3 in a pulsating game in Selayang, having earlier KL blown a 2-0 lead before Brazillian defender Leonardo Moreira converted a penalty a minute from time for the winning goal.

Jonathan Cantillana (14th), Hafiz Johar (37th) and Helmi Remeli (62nd) scored for the city side's other goals while Perlis replied through Famirul Ashraf Sayuti (38th), Park yong-jun (47th) and Afif Amiruddin (56th).
