Kedah floods: 85 flood evacuees from Yan and Pendang finally able to return home

ALOR STAR: The 85 flood victims in the affected areas in Yan and Pendang were finally able to return to their homes this morning as flood waters have subsided.

Kedah Civil Defence Department (JPAM) Disaster Operation officer Major Imran Azemi said the remaining two relief centres, namely Surau Kampung Sungai Lintang in Yan and Dewan Cenderawasih in Ayer Puteh, Pendang, which had been open since Tuesday (July 19) to accommodate victims, were closed today.

"The victims in the two affected areas were able to return to their homes early this morning as the flood waters subsided.

"The relief centre in Kampung Sungai Lintang in Yan was closed at 10am while the one in Ayer Puteh in Pendang was closed at 12pm today. The two relief centres are the last to be closed from the total 17 relief centres which were opened.

"Apart from Yan and Pendang, several areas in Kuala Muda and Baling were also affected by the flood since Monday (July 18) and Tuesday," he said.

He added that Yan recorded the highest number of victims, reaching to 369 people from 101 families (up until noon on Sunday), forcing the authorities to open a total of nine relief centres in the district.
